Follow-Up

Our fourth step is to follow up! We are persistent; we do our homework; and we work to make long term improvements in our community.

Example:

We continue to follow-up with Chesterfield schools to ensure that the commitments made are implemented.

Because we follow up and monitor the commitments made at our Nehemiah Action, we have achieved the following in our community:

1) Because of RISC, Richmond’s mayor and city council committed in 2015 to fund the Affordable Housing Trust Fund. The fund has helped over 1100 families and seniors obtain safe, affordable housing

2) City of Richmond officials approached us in 2017 and asked for our help to get a proven reading curriculum. We are working with the new administration toward a pilot this fall. We also continue working for the reading program in Henrico County Public Schools, where one-third of East End students fail to read on grade level.

3) And because of RISC, VCU Health and HCA hospitals are creating a health careers pipeline for low income job seekers from local workforce centers. The pilot launched earlier this summer.
