Mission & Vision

About Us Our Path to Doing Justice Member Congregations

“What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.”  - Micah 6:8

Richmonders Involved to Strengthen our Communities (RISC) is an organization of racially, religiously, and socio-economically diverse congregations in the Greater Richmond Area who respond to God’s call to do justice by building a powerful, collective ministry.

Serious institutional problems hinder our region from being all that it can and should be. RISC believes that the Greater Richmond Area will only become the beacon of justice God intends if all of its citizens share – shoulder-to-shoulder and across the racial, economic, religious, and political lines that have so often divided us – in the work of creating a compassionate and just community of opportunity for all.

RISC's Mission: Listen to community members to identify problems, research the root causes of injustice in the region, develop actionable solutions, and call upon and hold appropriate decision makers accountable to do justice accordingly.

RISC's Vision: A Greater Richmond Community in which everyone, regardless of zip code, social class, or skin color, has access to excellent education, nurturing community, safe neighborhoods, living-wage employment, restorative recreation, nourishing food, reliable health care, ease of transportation, and safe affordable housing.

RISC's Motivation: The model of Nehemiah and the Lord’s requirement to do justice. We believe that the Lord created us for the just and joyful purpose of loving God and our neighbors as ourselves, and God’s righteousness requires each of us personally and collectively to carry out that call.
