Mission & Vision

Mission: To build a powerful community of racially, religiously, and socioeconomically diverse congregations who address the root causes of injustice in the Greater Richmond Region.

Vision: We want to come together across the dividing lines that have traditionally marked our region and create a community where everyone can thrive.

Across our faith traditions, we are called to seek justice - holding those in power accountable for the fair treatment of all people, especially the poor and oppressed. One person, or even one congregation, cannot hold our public officials accountable  alone. Through RISC, we build the power of organized people to achieve a just community.

Motivation: As a powerful organization of diverse congregations, RISC follows the model of Nehemiah in the Hebrew Scriptures and the requirement across all faiths to do justice. We believe that justice is equally important with mercy and worship in living out our faith, and provide a clear way for faith congregations to engage every member in doing justice.

Serious institutional problems hinder our region from being all that it can and should be. The Greater Richmond region will only become the beacon of justice God intends if all of its citizens share – shoulder-to-shoulder and across the racial, economic, religious, and political lines that have so often divided us – in the work of creating a compassionate and just community of opportunity for all.
